Independent Illustrator verses
Self-Publishing Illustrators

IT  IS  LESS  EXPENSIVE  TO HIRE   AN   INDEPENDENT  ILLUSTRATOR

An independent illustrator charges for your

illustrations and cover art, there is no middle man

Not only does the self-publishing company charge you for an  illustrator and  their fee for providing one (fees combined) They also charge you for a    children's book printing package which allows you to have a certain number of images. Here is an actual example:

The children's book packages alone run from $1,499 to  $4,999 and then the illustrations pkg. runs an additional cost.

$149 per illustration for a very flat basic look,

$175 per illustration for the addition of shadows /contrast

$325 per illustration for the addition of some details, covers

are quoted as $349 to $599)

Is your brain staring to swim with all this expense? It should be.

YOU  HAVE  MORE CONTROL- IT IS YOUR  BOOK  AFTER ALL

An independent illustrator will work one on one with you to achieve your vision

A self-publisher will act as a go between, between yourself and their illustrator

Some self-publishers will assign you the next available in-house illustrator. It is possible that you will never have any personal contact with your illustrator.

An independent illustrator can do your illustrations for the self-publishing company. You don't have to purchase their illustrator package.
